Integrating biblical truth with academic excellence
Curriculum
Westside Christian Academy
opened its doors in the fall of 1996 with the vision of providing
something different in the education of young children. We provide an
excellent academic program, presented from a biblical worldview, which
incorporates a unique mentoring relationship between the student and
classroom teacher. Our program includes Bible, math, grammar,
literature, science, history, Latin, physical education, and the
dramatic arts including choir, music theory, art, and drama.
Our
challenging curriculum integrates the philosophy of the classical
education within a traditional classroom setting. Our small class size
ensures that each student receives individualized attention on a daily
basis. Our phonics-based spelling and literature program employs
classic and award winning books to create a love for reading. History
is integrated with literature so that the past comes alive through the
lives of literary characters. The math program is structured so that
the curriculum may be strengthened or modified to meet the needs of
each individual student.

Given
that our academic philosophy is shaped by the classical approach to
learning, we believe that developmental stages play a large role in
successful instruction. As such, curriculum materials are continually reviewed by their success in meeting the educational standards of the school.Additionally,
special consideration is given to meeting various learning styles
(Auditory, Visual, Manipulative) so that each student is best able to
succeed in their academic pursuits.
In
order to reach the hearts of the students, we have replaced the
behavioral modification techniques of the modern classroom to focus on
each student as an individual uniquely created by God. Rather than
simply correcting unwanted behavior, our teachers shepherd the heart of
each child so that students behave in a more godly way, not out of fear
of punishment or for praise, but out of love for our Lord. At the same
time, teachers communicate regularly with parents so that we work as a
team in bringing up these children in "the nurture and admonition of
the Lord."
