Integrating biblical truth with academic excellence
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your mission?
Our educational
philosophy is based upon the understanding that the knowledge of God is
the beginning of wisdom, and that truth can only be understood through
a relationship with Jesus Christ as the creator and sustainer of the
world around us.Included in this philosophy is
the acknowledgement that the Bible is the infallible Word of God and
has authority to guide us in our pursuit of truth and in the
instruction of the children entrusted to us.WCA’s
philosophy embodies the concept that education is more than just
academics; it also involves character development, which enables
children to fulfill God’s will in their lives.
While
we believe that the Bible affirms that parents are responsible for the
education and training of their children, Westside Christian Academy
exists to assist parents in this important task.
Are you an A.C.S.I. school? Since
its inception, Westside Christian Academy has been a member in good
standing of the Association of Christian Schools International. To learn more about the ACSI, go directly to their website at www.acsi.org or
to read WCA's ACSI profile, go to their website and click on
Membership, and then on the left side of the page, click on Member
School Directory and do a search for "Westside Christian Academy."
What are your requirements for teachers? All
employees must have a strong commitment to a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ. All classroom teachers have a Bachelor of Arts or Science
degree in their field of education.
What grade levels does WCA offer? At this time, WCA offers kindergarten through eighth grade.
What are the class sizes? WCA
provides a traditional classroom setting of approximately 15 students
per class. This low student/teacher ratio enables teachers to give
personal attention to both character and academic development in each
student.
How large is the student body? Presently, WCA has 108 students.
What religion does WCA represent? Our Statement of Faith is non-denominational in approach and is founded on the doctrine of sola fide: salvation through faith alone in the atoning death and resurrection of Christ. There is also an emphasis on developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not teach a specific church doctrine, but rather general Bible knowledge with a strong emphasis on Christ-like leadership and character development. (To review the WCA Statement of Faith, go to the Admissions page and pull up the admissions application. The Statement of Faith is given there.)
What curriculum do you use? WCA offers an education that includes math, literature, grammar, science, history, Latin, Bible, music, art and drama, and physical education, all taught from a traditional, classical approach. The school's English program is phonics-based and introduces students to classic and award-winning books as soon as they begin to read. Teachers place Christ in the center of all their classroom instruction to students.
Do you have Fine Arts? Yes. Art, choir, music theory, and drama are all included in our educational program.
Are parents active in the classrooms? Absolutely! At WCA, parents and extended family members such as grandparents are encouraged to be a visible part of the school environment and are involved in the classroom activities on a regular basis.
What is the dress code for students at WCA? Students are required to wear a school uniform which incorporates a limited variety of styles and colors. Our uniforms are comfortable, durable, cost effective, and help to promote excellence in student behavior and work. You can see examples of the uniforms in the website photos
