What to Expect in Grade 4

  • Morning assemblies with the whole school featuring prayer, a devotion, praise songs, birthday celebrations and announcements.
  • Chapel each Wednesday featuring singing, Bible recitation and a message or special presentation.
  • Participation in a “Family Group,” a K-6 mix of 10 students led by a 6th grader. These groups meet almost weekly for prayer, game or devotional activity.
  • Daily bible instruction using Veritas Press, I Chronicles through Malachi/Job
  • Weekly scripture memorization
  • Daily reading/literature: Spalding and Shurley programs. Books include Beorn The Proud, King Arthur & Knights of the Round Table, Cricket in Times Square, Adam of the Road, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Big John’s Secret. Prepare eight written book reports
  • Grammar/Writing – Shurley.
  • Daily math: Saxon program including double-digit multiplication, division, decimals, square roots, evaluating expressions, geometric models
  • History: Veritas Press. Vikings, Middle Ages, Renaissance, supplemented with Story of the World, Volume 2, The Middle Ages.
  • Geography: Nystrom Hands-on Geography: Building map Skills
  • Science:  God’s Design for Heaven and Earth:  Our Weather and Water (semester 1) and God’s Design for Physical World: Machines & Motion (semester 2)
  • Health
  • Latin two times per week
  • Music, including choir
  • Art two times per week
  • Physical Education twice per week
  • Library twice per week
  • Daily snack from home; daily lunch and recess
  • Annual participation in Field Day, Christmas program and Spring Musical and a fourth grade led chapel service.
